Abdullah I. Almhaidib King Saud University

Prof. Abdullah I. Al-Mhaidib has been the dean of Quality at King Saud University since October 2012. He was the vice dean of the College of Engineering for Development and Quality. He is a professor of Geotechnical Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He graduated in Civil Engineering from King Saud University in 1982. He obtained his M.Sc. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from University of Colorado at Boulder, Col. in 1986; and his Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1992.
Prof. Al-Mhaidib has published more than 40 national and international technical papers in various journals and conferences in the area of geotechnical engineering and engineering education. He reviewed a number of journal and conference papers.

Abstract

College of Engineering at King Saud University and the partnership with IndustryOne objective of the strategic plan of the College of Engineering at King Saud Universityis to strengthen the partnership and cooperation with the different institutions of thesociety which coincides with the mission of King Saud University. College ofEngineering worked in several directions to activate this partnership.The first area is to provide engineering consultations by members of the teaching staff tothe industry (private sector). Also, the college established advisory board to get feedbackfrom its stakeholders; the members of this board are from both the governmental and theindustry sectors.The second area is to support the scientific research through the finance provided byindustry to establish research chairs in the college, the first funded research chair wasestablished in the College of Engineering among the colleges in King Saud University.College of Engineering has 14 research chairs in the present time funded by differentinstitutions of the society; most of them are from the industry.The third area contains the support provided by industry to the educational aspects in theCollege through the provision of scholarships to the outstanding students in differentdepartments of the College. It also includes the provision of awards to the outstandinggraduation projects in the departments.The fourth area involved the practical training of the college’s students in differentindustry companies. The training period is 10 weeks. The latter area focus on providingspecialized engineering training courses in different fields to the engineers.This paper presents the various aspects of the partnership of College of Engineering atKing Saud University with the industry.
